  • China calls for advancing the political process and improving the security situation in Haiti

    Release time:2025-08-29 Page views:0

On August 28th, Geng Shuang, the Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, spoke at the open meeting of the Security Council on the issue of Haiti, calling for the advancement of the political process, improvement of the security situation, and development of the economy and people's livelihood in Haiti.

Geng Shuang said that multiple crises in Haiti are intertwined and overlapping, the security situation continues to deteriorate, economic development has stagnated, and the people are suffering particularly deeply. China deeply sympathizes with the Haitian people, especially children, and is deeply concerned about the future of Haiti. We call on the Haitian authorities, regional countries, and the international community to work together to help Haiti overcome its difficulties as soon as possible.

Geng Shuang stated that the root cause of the chaos in Haiti lies in the absence of a legitimate government and disorderly national governance. The Chinese side hopes that the Haitian authorities will unite all parties and factions, strive for substantial progress in the "Haitian led, Haitian owned" political process as soon as possible, and create conditions and lay the foundation for the international community to provide stable and sustainable assistance to Haiti.

Geng Shuang said that China calls on the Haitian authorities to increase security investment, allocate resources reasonably, and promote the international community to form a joint force for security assistance to Haiti. The Chinese side appreciates the assistance provided by the multi-national security support mission led by Kenya to improve the security situation in Haiti, and calls on the initiating countries and donor countries of the support mission, especially major countries that bear the main responsibility for the situation in Haiti, to continue to provide financial support. At the same time, we must implement the Security Council's arms embargo on Haiti and cut off the supply of weapons and ammunition to gangs.

Geng Shuang said that China encourages the Haitian authorities to increase development investment and improve people's lives. China calls on the international community to increase humanitarian assistance to help Haiti eliminate poverty, promote education, improve healthcare, and enhance the social service system, continuously enhancing Haiti's livelihood security and independent development capabilities. China is willing to continue working with the international community to play a constructive role in helping Haiti overcome the crisis as soon as possible.
